I created this wiki. I am a Perl -Monk Friar Bishop Pontiff- Deacon (see Perl Monks). Find out more about Wiki Wiki Web or Why My Wiki was created even though so many wiki choices already exist.
I graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, aka IIT-D, in 1985, and got myself hired at a local NGO in New Delhi. I created my own job there, got the funding to pay for my salary, and convinced two other classmates to join me.
Two years later I came to UW-Madison to study something I had always wanted to do: environmental science.
I had these visions that I would be a naturalist, working out in the great outdoors. Well, only time that happened was when I got a summer job working for the US Park Service at the Glacier National Park in Montana.
At UW, I was introduced to GIS, a relatively new field 20 years ago. In 1990 I spent 3 months working in Trinidad and Tobago on a land records modernization project.
I finished my Master of Science degree in 1991, and started my PhD One Dot Oh at the UW. I went back to India in 1992 to do my research on an American Institute for Indian Studies fellowship.
In 1993 I got a job at the World Bank in Washington DC as a GIS consultant. I worked on several GIS-related projects around the world (India, Bolivia, Trinidad and Tobago), but mainly in India. After 4 years of work at the World Bank, I joined a small GIS/IT consulting company back in Madison, WI.
This year I have been inspired to start my PhD Two Dot Oh.
I am married to Kalpana Prakash.
Nesara Zui is mi hija.
